# Welcome back!

Hi AGS Students and Families,

I hope you had an interesting, positive vacation and I look forward to seeing everyone in class tomorrow. We had family visit from New York and spent a few days this weekend just enjoying the sun and taking over the local playgrounds 🙂

I wanted to write you about
* Geometry materials students will need every day for the remainder of the year
* Our current and upcoming topics of study
* Change to my "almost daily" (emphasis on the almost) emails

Daily Materials

Students will continue to need their AGS binders which should have hole-punched loose leaf pages for notes, their pencil pouch, warm up sheet and any additional handouts they receive in class. They will also need

• a compass (for drawing circles, here is what I recommend, \$5.50 at Office Depot)
• a straight edge (can use a popsicle stick, provided by me)
• a protractor for measuring/drawing precise angles (I will provide a disposable protractor

Students will need their compasses throughout our study of geometry. So far we have gotten by on patty paper but compasses will be necessary in the next module and if they can keep track of them they will be necessary next year in AGS 2 as well.

Current Module + Upcoming Modules

Before Spring Break we came close to completing Module 6 which consists of a study of the properties of Rigid Geometric Transformations (translations, rotations, and reflections) as well as a study of symmetry and the properties of triangles, quadrilaterals and regular polygons. We also touched on the Pythagorean Theorem (A triangle is right if and only its side lengths a b, and c (where $\dpi{300}\inline a \leq b < c$) satisfy the equation $\dpi{300}\inline a^2 + b^2 = c^2$).

We will be completing module 6 and an assessment on the module by the end of the week. I have the Module 6 test scheduled for this Friday. On the test students will need to

We will complete 6.6, 6.7 on Monday and Tuesday and spend two days doing problem solving and review problems to prepare for the test on Friday.

Change to my "Almost Daily" Emails (notice lowering of expectations)

I've been thinking about my emails/lack thereof as of late and wanted to send out a more general email and update you on what's going on from my end. Since my son was born my duties before/after school have shifted and I now do the morning routine dropoff and pickup for my daughter most days before and after school. This has made it very difficult for me to send regular email updates to you after school since I have no planning time on A-days and during my plan time on B-days I have a number of responsibilities to balance including email writing. Email updates don't make much sense if I send them after my daughter goes to bed at 8pm because you probably don't want to check for them, and, again, I have other school work to take care of as well. The best solution for me is to switch from sending an explanation to simply sending an email containing the assignment for the day. I will try to send this out during class or at lunch time so that it is there, but I will not necessarily include narrative or explanation to go along with the assignment, it will just say something like

Today's assignment: complete 6.6 task + rsg

I'm sorry I haven't been able to send the same level of updates as I would like, I know that communication is important but at the moment I need to prioritize a bit. As always, if you have questions for me please feel free to send me an email.

If you made it all the way down to here, bravo! Thanks for reading and let's have a great Spring!

Regards,
Nick
